With the holidays approaching, EEFCU encourages our members to be even more vigilant in protecting yourself against fraudsters and scammers, who would like nothing better than to steal your money and information to give themselves a better holiday. We encourage our members to remember take a minute and think about what you are saying or selecting before you do it. Texts and emails with links, phone calls asking for information, advertisements on social media or even pieces of mail should all be carefully reviewed before you respond or make contact. If someone is reaching out to you as a representative regarding your account, never give them any personal information. If the call is legit, the representative will already have the information they need – your account numbers, birthdate, social security number, etc. They do not need you Passwords, PIN Numbers, or other such information. If in doubt, call that business back on a number you have looked up yourself and speak to a representative.
For example, if the EEFCU Fraud Center contacts you regarding possible fraud on your account, you will receive a text or call to the number EEFCU has listed on your account. The message will simply ask whether or not you did a specific transaction. Reply accordingly. Notify the EEFCU if we need to order you a replacement card. Sometimes one of our staff members may call you to confirm the information, but will clearly identify ourselves. If you have doubts, hang up and call the EEFCU.
Remember, that no matter how many safeguards are in place, you are your best line of defense.
