Cyber Scams are on the rise. Keep yourself safe by being aware of how cyber criminals can access your information. Here are a few scams you should be aware of:
Fake Shipping Notices: If you see emails supposedly from UPS and FedEx notifying you that a package could not be delivered. Don’t click on it. Phishing attacks try to make you click on a link or open an attachment. If opened, your computer could be infected with a virus or even ransomware which could destroy files or hold them hostage until you pay a required ransom.
Free Gift Cards or coupons: Don’t fall for offers from retailers or social media posts that offering free gift cards or coupons that may be paired with promotions or contests. Some posts or emails even appear to be shared by a friend who unknowingly passed on the scam or who may have been hacked. Verify any promotion before you click on it.
Refund Scams: Be cautious of emails that come from on-line merchants claiming there’s a mistake with your transaction and prompt you to click the refund At this point you are asked to fill out a form, the personal information on the form may be sold to cyber criminals.
Phishing Scams: Phishing email scams are sent out that can trick people into thinking they could win prizes. However, these emails are often phishing attacks.
Secure Wi-Fi: Make sure to use a secure Wi-Fi connection when shopping on-line.
